Landmark Laws - Kerry Staight Landmark laws to protect two of the country's premium wine regions from urban sprawl, passed through the South Australian Parliament this week. The 'character preservation legislation' stops the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale from being swamped by housing. However as Kerry Staight reports, while the State Government has declared it a win for agriculture, not all primary industries are celebrating.
Hook Line & Sinking - Sean Murphy A prominent Top End professional fisherman has vowed to defy the Commonwealth's new marine reserves, and keep fishing in proposed 'no take' zones. Bruce Davey won the Northern Territory's Environment Award last year, but he claims the Northern Marine Reserve will rob him and his family, of a sustainable catch for no proven environmental benefit.
