Religion and Ethics Report - Religious turmoil in Syria and Lebanon

ABC Radio National | Wednesday 28 November 2012 5.30pm

Presented by Andrew West
Could the religious turmoil that is currently roiling Syria spill over into Lebanon? Dr Mike Bassous, general secretary of the Bible Society of Lebanon, says that Lebanon has struck a delicate political and religious balance between Christians, Sunni Muslims, Shiite Muslims and Druze, but this could be in jeopardy as thousands of refugees fleeing the violence in Syria pour across the border. And Professor Ruth Powell, director of the National Church Life Survey, gives an overview of the results of the latest survey, which finds that churchgoers are older, well educated and overwhelmingly female - and that the sense of belonging outweighs belief.
