The Daily Planet With Lucky Oceans Monday to Thursday 11:00pm http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/dailyplanet/ All next week, Lucky will be taking us through the new Richard Thompson album. Some have called Richard Thompson's new album, Electric, his best since the 1990s. He's in mostly electric, power trio mode, with his touring band - drummer Michael Jerome, bassist Taras Prodaniuk and a great new bunch of songs and solos. A master of both soloing and song writing, Richard integrates the two ingeniously. It's quintessentially English folk rock and the smaller line-up has him pushing his guitar and voice harder than usual. It was recorded at Buddy Miller's house in Nashville, more to record 'in a house' than to make a Nashville album although Nashville maestros Alison Krauss, Stuart Duncan and Buddy himself make discreet appearances. The Inside Sleeve Robbie Buck Monday to Friday 3pm http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/insidesleeve/ Tuesday afternoon hear US producer Hal Willner, speaking about his experience working on the new Rogues Gallery compilation. A release that features Tom Waits, Keith Richards, Patti Smith, Shane MacGowan and a host of other luminaries, all delivering rousing renditions of age old sea shanties. Once the show was announced, the tickets sold out in hours and a few hundred lucky listeners crowded into the quadrangle of the Fremantle Art Centre to hear Paul, Lucky and surprise guest Alan Pigram play two sets of Paul's songs. In the first of a two-part broadcast, Paul & Lucky reminisce about playing together in exotic and unusual places all over the world, and talk about the background of songs from Paul's latest album "Spring and Fall". The Weekend Planet With Doug Spencer Sunday 10pm http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/weekendplanet/ Andrew Cyrille and Haitian fascination: 'Route De Freres Andrew Cyrille is a legendary, much-recorded drummer butRoute de Frères lovingly addresses something of which many admirers are unaware: his connection to Haiti. Cyrille was born and raised in New York, but to parents from Haiti - a land their son first visited as a seven year old, more than sixty years ago. Into The Music Saturday 4pm http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/intothemusic/ Get Up Stand Up part 2 Music and politics can be a force to be reckoned with and songwriters often ignite the spirit and create soundtracks for generations of change-makers. But where do politics and song writing intersect? Do political songs drive change or do they just document the times in which they're written? An impressive line-up of songwriters gathered at the Woodford festival over Xmas and New Year last year and discussed these and other questions with forum host Sandy McCutcheon. On stage for the 2nd session of Get Up Stand Up were John Butler, Alesa Lajana, Penelope Swales, Shane Howard, Juice Media Rap News. Sadly a combination of poor promotion, lack of finance and personal priorities meant that the record never truly got the attention it deserved.
