AUSTRALIAN STORY NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 8 2013

Hello Everyone

Firstly apologies for missing the first episode of the year. I had a very busy start to 2013 and in the midst of the maelstrom forgot entirely about sending out my newsletter. I was very heartened (and chastened) to see that it had been missed! So now without further ado, let's see what it coming up for episode two...

Scott Johnson was a young man with everything going for him - a maths genius with a bright future. He had finished the last assignment for his PHD in mathematics and then caught a ferry to Manly beach to celebrate. Two days later, his naked body was found at the bottom of a nearby cliff.

Was it suicide, as the police quickly decided? Or was it murder?

The enduring mystery of the young American's death is the subject of 'On the Precipice'. The quest for answers brings together a pioneering figure in the development of the internet, an investigative journalist who made his name covering the Jon Benet Ramsay case, and a psychiatric nurse who was the last known person to see Scott alive.

Sydney based producer Ben Cheshire and editor Ian Harley have woven together the story of a group of people brought together to investigate Scott's death and how they have become friends seeking justice.

The program features interviews with former and current detectives, experts on gay-hate crime, and family and friends.

I've just watched the latest edit and the ending brought tears to my eyes. So don't miss 'On The Precipice' this Monday, February 11 at 8pm on ABC1.

Cheers
