Greetings from ABC Classic FM.  This week: Australian Music Month kicks off; Sunday Live travels to Adelaide; Four Winds from Bermagui; Cheryl Barker gets bloody in Salome ... and much more.
CELEBRATING AUSTRALIAN MUSIC
Highlight It's Australian Music Month on ABC Radio, and ABC Classic FM has a lot in store for your listening pleasure. Many of your regular programs will broadcast special recordings and features throughout November, starting this weekend with a celebration of Peggy Glanville-Hicks.
PEGGY GLANVILLE-HICKS
Highlight

As part of Australian Music Month, we focus on Australian composer Peggy Glanville-Hicks this weekend. In Keys To Music at 9am on Saturday , Graham Abbott presents a survey of her life and work, then in Sunday Opera at 7pm we'll hear the just-completed first full-length recording of Peggy Glanville-Hicks's opera Sappho, with libretto by the novelist Lawrence Durrell.

FOUR WINDS FESTIVAL FROM BERMAGUI
Highlight

The Four Winds Festival is held every two years at Easter in a natural bush amphitheatre south of Bermagui on the NSW Far South Coast. In 2012 Festival director Genevieve Lacey put together an exciting blend of musicians, compositions and instruments. Next week, as part of Australian Music Month celebrations, we present Four Winds concerts on Tuesday , Wednesday and Thursday .

 ABC Local Radio in Bega was at the Festival and produced videos of the performances which you can watch here .


SUNDAY LIVE IN ADELAIDE
Highlight

Sunday 4 November, 3pm - Wind Principals, hosted by Julie Howard

Your chance to hear two of Australia's finest wind players, Geoffrey Collins (flute) and Celia Craig (oboe). They are principal players with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and together with pianist Michael Terace start the Adelaide season of Sunday Live.

It's FREE and no booking is required. Come along to Studio 520, ABC Adelaide, 85 North East Road, Collinswood. Please be seated by 2.20pm as the live broadcasts begin promptly at 2.30pm Adelaide time.

Friday 2 November - 8pm
Evening Concert - Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra
Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream: Overture, Weber's Clarinet Concerto No 1 in F minor, Baermann's Adagio, Ravel Pavane for a Dead Infanta and Bizet's Symphony in C are performed by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in the Federation Concert Hall, Hobart.

Saturday 3 November - 1pm
Saturday Afternoon Concert - Opera Australia's Salome, LIVE
Following a highly successful season with the English National Opera, Australian soprano Cheryl Barker returns to Australia to perform one of opera's grittiest female roles in Opera Australia's Salome. Live from the Sydney Opera House Opera Theatre. 

Sunday 4 November - 7pm
Sunday Opera - The Peggy Glanville-Hicks Centenary: Sappho
As part of Australian Music Month and coinciding with this year's 100th anniversaries of the births of both composer and librettist, tonight's opera is a world premiere broadcast. Sappho is an in three acts to a libretto taken from Lawrence Durrell's play in verse with additions from Bliss Carman's 'Sappho - One Hundred Lyrics' (1963).

Monday 5 November - 7pm
Evening Concert - Aleksandar Madzar and Anthony Marwood
Live from from the City Recital Hall, Angel Place, Sydney, long-time collaborators Aleksandar Madzar (piano) and Anthony Marwood (violin) perform a program, including Gordon Kerry's Martian Snow, Beethoven's Violin Sonata No 9 in A, Op 47 (Kreutzer), Debussy's Sonata for violin and piano and Schubert's Fantasy in C, D934.

Tuesday 6 November - 1pm
Afternoon Concert - Four Winds Festival
Today's performers from the Four Winds Festival in Bermagui, NSW, include Miki Tsunoda (violin) Satsuki Odamura (koto), Bronwyn Kirkpatrick (shakuhachi) and Adam Szabo (cello).

Wednesday 7 November - 8pm
Evening Concert - Four Winds Festival
Tonight's performers from the Four Winds Festival in Bermagui, NSW, include James Crabb (classical accordion), Genevieve Lacey (recorder), Caroline Henbest (viola), Helena Rathbone (violin) and Daniel Yeadon (cello). Highlights include Haydn's Piano Trio No 39 in G, Hob.XV:25 and Britten's Lachrymae, Reflections on a Song of Dowland, Op 48a.

Thursday 8 November - 8pm
Evening Concert - From the Philharmonie in Cologne
Featuring pianist Kirill Gerstein, the WDR Symphony Orchestra performs a program including Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Op 62, Schoenberg's Piano Concerto, Op 42 and Brahms' Symphony No 3 in F, Op 90.

Friday 9 November - 7.30pm
Evening Concert - LIVE: Adelaide Symphony Orchestra
Live from St Peter's Cathedral, Adelaide, cellist Li-Wei Qin features in tonight's performance of Peter Sculthorpe's New Norcia, Stravinsky's Symphonies for Wind Instruments and Tavener's The Protecting Veil.
