Greetings from ABC Classic FM where the team is busy preparing for The Classic 100 -  Music of France Countdown beginning on Monday 8 October. In the meantime, excitement is building towards the Young Performers Awards Grand Final to be hosted by Graham Abbott live from Perth on Thursday. And a treat for Melbourne listeners, be sure to join Christopher Lawrence next week for the chance to attend this year's Melbourne International Arts Festival. Enjoy.
YOUNG PERFORMERS AWARDS GRAND FINAL - LIVE
Highlight

Join us on Thursday as we cross live to the Perth Concert Hall for the Grand Final of the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards hosted by Simon Healy. Mastro Vladimir Verbitsky will direct the West Australian Symphony Orchestra who accompany the three finalists in three concertos. You can hear rebroadcasts of the Stage 3 Finals at 8pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in the lead up to the big night.

Celebrate the launch of the latest CD from the HUSH Foundation, which produces music to reduce stress and anxiety for children, families and others in hospital. Join Emma Ayres from 7pm for a live launch on Wednesday 3 October as the music of Mark Isaacs brings the story of The Wind in the Willows to life.

Sydney listeners, come along to Eugene Goossens Hall at ABC Ultimo by 6.45pm for the free concert. As this is a live broadcast we suggest you arrive early to avoid disappointment.


PINCHGUT AT THE ART GALLERY OF NSW
Highlight

To celebrate the Classic 100 - The Music of France, Pinchgut Opera and ABC Classic FM are presenting a concert at the beautiful Old Courts at the Art Gallery of NSW this Sunday 30 September. Soprano Celeste Lazarenko, music director and harpsichordist Erin Helyard, and players from Pinchgut Opera will perform works by Rameau, Lully, Mondonville and others. If you'll be in Sydney for the long weekend, come and join us for a beautiful evening of music making. Ticket purchase and enquiries: 02 9225 1878 (Ticket includes entry to the Eugene Atget : Old Paris exhibition.).

For listeners who can't be there, Christopher will broadcast the concert in Mornings on Wednesday 3 October.

SUNDAY LIVE IN NEWCASTLE - THE HUNTER SINGERS
Highlight

Recently returned from a very successful tour to the United States, the Hunter Singers finish our Newcastle series of free Sunday Live concerts from the Harold Lobb Concert Hall of the Newcastle Conservatorium. Kim Sutherland directs the choir in an eclectic program of song with compositions by Bartok, Stephen Leek, and Carl Vine as well as traditional folk songs.
This concert will be at the Harold Lobb Concert Hall at the Newcastle Conservatorium. All are welcome, however, audience are required to be seated by 2:50 as the concert will begin at 3pm sharp.

Evenings - Flinders Quartet
Recorded in the Melbourne Recital Centre earlier this year, the quartet performs Elegy by Calvin Bowman, Beethoven's String Quartet No 16 in F, Op 135, and the Smetana String Quartet No 1 in E minor (From my Life).

Saturday 29 September - 1pm
Saturday Afternoon Concert - Happy 80th Birthday, John Williams!
Recorded in the Perth Concert Hall in May, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra with conductor and presenter Anthony Inglis perform in this celebration. This careful selection of music from the vast range of John Williams' prodigious output pays tribute to a man who has provided inspiring musical accompaniment to some of the most popular films of all time.

Sunday 30 September - 1pm
Sunday Afternoon Concert  - Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
Today's performance from The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra features Murray Perahia (piano), Kate Royal (soprano), Barbara Kind (soprano), Christian Gerhaher (baritone) and the Berlin Radio Chorus. Sir Simon Rattle conducts a program including Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor Op 54 and Faure's Requiem, Op 48.

Monday 1 October - 1pm
Afternoon Concert - Kuss Quartet
In the Perth Concert Hall, this Musica Viva concert features the Kuss Quartet and Naoko Shimizu (viola) performing a program including Gordon Kerry's String Quintet, Smetana's String Quartet No 2 in D minor, Kurtag's Officium Breve in Memoriam Andrei Szervansky Op 28 and Mozart's String Quintet in C, K515.

Tuesday 2 October - 8pm
ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards: Stage 3 Strings Final
In the lead up to Thursday's Grand Final, we hear this Stage 3 Strings Final recorded in June in Elder Hall, University of Adelaide. The artists are Anna Da Silva Chen, violin (NSW), Shane Chen, violin (VIC) and Katerina Nazarova, violin (TAS). The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Marc Taddei.

Wednesday 3 October - 10am - Concert Special - Pinchgut Opera: The Music of France Recorded last Sunday at the Art Gallery of NSW, this special concert is part of ABC Classic FM's celebrations for The Classic 100: Music of France. Soprano Celeste Lazarenko, music director and harpsichordist Erin Helyard, and players from Pinchgut Opera will perform works by Rameau, Lully, Mondonville and others.

Thursday 4 October - 1pm
Afternoon Concert - Sydney Youth Orchestra
At the City Recital Hall in Sydney, Max McBride (double-bass) and Konstantin Shamray (piano) join the Sydney Youth Orchestra to perform Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio espagnol, Op 34, Rojas' Entre Rito y Parrandas (Between Ritual and Street-Party) and Piano Concerto No 2 (World première), along with Beethoven's Symphony No 7 in A, Op 92.

Friday 5 October - 8pm
Evening Concert - AYO National Music Camp 2012
Tonight's concert from this year's Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp was recorded in the Llewellyn Hall, ANU School of Music in Canberra, earlier this year. Works include CPE Bach's Symphony in C, Wq182/3 (H659), Barber's Adagio for Strings, Op 11 and Elgar In the South (Alassio), Overture, Op 50.
