This week we have an array of wonderful sessions all from 2012 Melbourne Writers Festival.

Tomorrow 11am on ABC1 in SHORTCUTS spend time discovering What's the Story with the The New Yorker magazine team, then take a different look at Australia with George Megalogenis, Louise Adler, Esther Anatolitis, and our own Waleed Aly in session titled Australia II.

Wednesday 11am on ABC1 An Evening with The New Yorker in Melbourne Town Hall, a tour inside this great magazine with some of their best writers and cartoonist - this episode is not to be missed! Cartoonist Roz Chast shares not only the process of creating the infamous The New Yorker cartoons but we learn how she and the rest of the team secured their coveted posts in this much loved publication. You'll also be entertained by wonderful storyteller David Grann as he regales of hunting giant squid and surviving contact with the Aryan Brotherhood.

Saturday 6.30pm on ABCNEWS24 Censorship, the Body and Porn, a smart discussion with all the panellists (David Marr, Karen Pickering & Jeff Sparrow) trying to fathom what drives the panic in the community about what is deemed pornographic. Lynne Haultain is the moderator.

Saturday 10.30pm on ABCNEW24 Insiders or Outsiders? Do some journalists get too close to the politicians they interview and/or write about; and how can they still keep the channels open and avoid any compromise? We're listening here to industry practitioners (Melissa Fyfe, Sue Roff, Tim Dunlop, Chris Uhlmann & Denis Muller) and the answers are a bit disquieting at times; especially when it comes to blogging and the rigours of publishing.

Sunday 11.30pm on ABCNEWS24 Labor in Vain features Gough Whitlam biographer and academic Jenny Hocking; Maxine McKew, the former ABC broadcaster and journalist; and former Premier of Victoria, Steve Bracks. The discussion does a bit of agonising over the fate of the Federal Labor Party. Is it in real crisis or just experiencing the odd slump?  The most recent polling might give the party a bit of a psychological bounce; but let's just say that this session is pretty inconclusive!
