This long weekend RN explores ideas of utopia, with Life Matters, By Design, Into The Music, Rear Vision, Future Tense all searching for the Perfect World. Late Night Live has been to Edinburgh and every Thursday night since late August, RN has broadcast the interviews that Phillip Adams recorded while he was there. You can catch-up on those interviews online. This week Phillip talks to a media pioneer Dame Joan Bakewell, the first female current affairs interviewer at BBC-TV. If you're a fan of political song writing don't forget to enter our competition to see Billy Bragg on his national tour. And for our Sydney listeners looking for something to do tonight, join us with 702 ABC Sydney's Richard Glover for a night of uproarious storytelling at Now Hear This, read on for details. | | Coming Up | | | | Late Night Live: From Edinburgh Every Thursday night since late August, we've had the chance to hear interviews conducted by Phillip Adams whilst he was in Edinburgh. Thursday 27 September 10pm repeat Friday 29 September 4pm | | | | | | Encounter: Perfect WorldsHeaven and Earth Christianity and Islam are perched on the horns of a dilemma: should we strive for a radical transformation of society or should we lower our earthly expectations and wait for God to sort things out? History provides us with sobering illustrations of how both can go wrong. Saturday 29 September 5pm repeat Wednesday 3 October 1pm | | | | | | Body Sphere: Perfect WorldsMedical and Makeover Tourism In the final program of this season of Body Sphere (All In the Mind returns on 6 October), we take a look at why so many Australians are now seeking cosmetic surgery in places like Thailand, Malaysia and India and what impact this is having on the host countries medical services for their locals. Sunday 30 September 5pm repeat Monday 1 October 1pm | | | | | | 360Documentaries: Perfect WorldsSanctuary What happened to the 1970s social experiment of communal living in the Rainbow Region of NSW? This week, we meet people from various intentional communities who've worked hard at sharing their land, labour, food and ideas and ask if their children will stay on to continue living the utopian dream? Sunday 30 September 10am repeat Friday 5 October 2pm | | | | | | Big Ideas: Labor and The GreensFriends or Enemies? As we move towards the next Federal election, how is the Labor/Greens arrangement faring? Tuesday 2 October 8pm | | | | | Most Popular | | | | First Bite: Beyond Fussy Eating Michael MacKenzie discusses Selective Eating Disorder (SED) with a parent and a child psychiatrist. SED is the latest children's eating disorder to be included in the psychologists and psychiatrists bible, the DSM5. | | | | | | Common Knowledge: Eyebrow Fashion Currently, women's eyebrows appear to be a minor cultural obsession. Researchers have found that brow shapes have become lower, flatter and less arched than in the past, with women apparently subconsciously favouring a more masculine look in response to increasing parity between men and women at work. Whether this is the case or not, the trend to lower brows is easy to spot. | | | | | | Future Tense: The Post-Authentic World Has authenticity become a goal not a quality? And is our relationship to the truth more complex than we often realise? Political commentator Denis Atkins is one of several guests who explore the modern world's strange relationship with the truth. Visit the program page for video of David Micthell's Soap Box on authenticity. | | | | | | RN Drive: Report Damns Treatment of Disabled Students in Victorian Schools Jonathan Green examines a report prepared by the Victorian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission that has found systemic failures of students with disabilities within the education system. Disabled students are being bullied and often physically restrained or secluded while at school. Is the current education system creating barriers for kids with disabilities? | | | | | News, Competitions and Events | | | | A Long Weekend Exploring A Perfect World We've desired it, we've dreamt of it, and we've even tried it.
