Well deserved recognition for the consistent efforts of Tim Gavel
666 ABC Canberra Grandstand's Tim Gavel was awarded the 2012 Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) Chief Minister's Community Media Award on Thursday, September 20, 2012. Tim's excellent level of support for sport in the ACT community was recognised as 'inspiring' including information, news and support for sport at every level.

Vice President of the Public Relations Institute of Australia ACT, Gareth Lloyd said "It was great to see Tim get the PRIA Chief Minister's Community Media Award" he said. "The feeling around the tables was this was very well deserved. Tim's work on behalf of 666 ABC Canberra makes a very special contribution to the life of the Canberra community".

This annual Award continues to recognise local media for their commitment to this community and it is a way to acknowledge the important role they play in keeping this community informed. Thank you to Andrew Sikorski for this photograph of Tim Gavel (left) and Jeremy Lasek (right) on the night of the Awards.

Floriade 2012 is kicking along and we have been inundated with entries to our Floriade photo competition. Thank you to those of you who have entered so far. Have you entered yet? On Monday October 1, our Genevieve Jacobs together with Joyce Wilkie will be cooking up a feast of fresh local food from their gardens and discussing how to cook with the seasons. They'll be in the 'Gourmet Garden' marquee at Floriade at 10am and again at 3pm - what a great way to spend this public holiday Monday.

Worms are the ultimate family pet - you don't have to take them for walks, they eat almost everything you don't and turn it into the most fantastic garden fertiliser. Over the next few weeks, 666 ABC Canberra's Lish Fejer will be presenting 'wiggly worm workshops' at Floriade in the Look'n'Learn marquee. Come and see Lish and Learn how to set up a worm farm and keep these little mulching machines in your own backyard, a great school holiday activity.

666 Saturday Spruce Up - applications now open for 2012
The 2011 666 Saturday Spruce Up at Dorothy Sales Cottages saw the best community spirit Canberra has to offer. The 666 Saturday Spruce Up, now proudly in its fifth year is now calling for entries for the 2012 666 Saturday Spruce up, set for December 1, 2012.

666 Saturday Breakfast presenter Greg Bayliss teamed with 666 gardening guru Graham Williams, handyman extraordinaire Greg Spencer and many local volunteers donate their time to do something for the community.
