Hello and welcome to October
Drive presenter, Vicki Kerrigan, has lots of great promotions throughout October.  Vicki has tickets to the premiere screening of the new Australian documentary - I Am Eleven - at the Deckchair Cinema.  And if blues and roots is your preferred musical style, Vicki will be offering listeners the chance to see and meet singer/songwriter Mia Dyson.  On Friday 12 October, Vicki will stage the Happy Hour from the bridge of the CSIRO'S research vessel Southern Surveyor.  Stay tuned for an afternoon of marine science and tales from the high seas.

Feature Story of the Month
For Dementia Awareness Week this month, ABC Darwin delved into the very personal world of a couple living with Alzheimer's disease. On-Air

The Guestroom is having a huge month in October!

Marking the 10th anniversary of the Bali Bombings, we will be speaking to local Darwin doctors Dr Dianne Stephens and Dr Len Notaras, who were heavily involved in the evacuation and treatment of many badly injured.

Brown's Mart also marks 40 years in 2012, and Terry Kenwrick performed in the first play ever staged there! He'll join us in The Guestroom this Thursday, the 4th of October.

Local identities Lutz Frankenfeld, who founded the Beer Can Regatta, and Alice Springs Mayor Damien Ryan, will also be on the program.

Authors Lily Brett and Pamela Stephenson will be worth listening out for too - Pamela's story is especially fascinating. She wrote a biography of her husband Billy Connolly, and once sailed across the Pacific in the footsteps of Fanny Stevenson, the wife of Robert Louis Stevenson who lived in Samoa for many years. Pamela is also a psychologist and former actress, and now she's written her autobiography!

And if you're looking for a great podcast to listen to, our favourites from the last month include Goanna front man Shane Howard, local pastor Basil Schild, and the inspiring story of Bali Bombings survivor Phil Britten.

Listen to The Guest Room.

October Music with Anne-Marie Middlemast

It's all about home-grown music in October, with new releases on the way that include the celebrated Indigenous musician Archie Roach. Into the Bloodstream is his new one, and after spending some time revisiting his classic album Jamu Dreaming of late, which features Vika and Linda Bull and the sweet tones of Tiddas, I'm eager to hear some fresh yarns from this fine songwriter.

Paul Kelly's Spring and Fall is set for release in the middle of the month, and a week later Sarah Blasko gives us her fourth, and self-produced album in I Awake. Also on the horizon are releases from Tex Perkins, Lisa Mitchell and Martha Wainwright to name a few. There seems to be an influx of truly great Aussie releases in October, and given we're not officially in Aus Music Month (November - of which we have some fabulous events happening) this month provides us with plenty of reasons to soak up and enjoy some true blue artistic talent.
