Hello Everyone
This week's program follows veteran print reporter Malcolm Brown on his personal D Day as job cuts sweep through Australia's oldest newspaper. The Fairfax Media owned Sydney Morning Herald is facing the most turbulent period in its near 200 year history.
Malcolm Brown is just one of the reporters fighting to keep a place inside the paper he's served faithfully for forty years. He first joined the Sydney Morning Herald as a twenty-five year old from Dubbo and has covered the country's biggest stories including the Chamberlain case, the Hilton Hotel bombing, Fiji coups and the Wood Royal Commission.
'A Man Of His Word' is the story of one man and an industry caught on the cutting edge of the digital revolution. Melbourne based producer Belinda Hawkins and editor Steven Baras-Miller worked closely with Sydney based researcher Jacquelyne Hole to bring you this moving and illuminating peek at journalism history.
Join us on Monday night at 8pm on ABC1 as we go inside the offices as staff wait for the white redundancy envelopes that reveal who is staying and who's out the door...
Malcolm Brown will be taking part in the twitter forum after the program at #australianstory, along with two of his colleagues who appear in the program. So feel free to join us all for a chat after the program!
And just a quick reminder that you can check out a preview at www.abc.net.au/austory
Now for a bit of office gossip! You may remember our program on Sir Jack Brabham that was updated in May this year. Brisbane based editor Roger produced 'When We Were Racers' and Rog, his son Chris and I attended the Sir Jack Brabham Tribute Dinner last Monday night. We had a fabulous time, got our pic in the paper and I won the silent auction for a pair of Brabham driving gloves. How cool is that?
Well, that's it for this week. Have a great weekend everyone and don't forget to tune in on Monday night!
Cheers
