Greetings from ABC Classic FM. Although the Proms have finished we hope you enjoy our focus on The Cleveland Orchestra this coming week. There are still two days to get your Mudgee haikus in and be in the running to join us in person at the Huntington Music Festival. If you're in Sydney, two dates for your diary - Pinchgut Opera celebrate French music and art on 30 September at the AGNSW and then on 3 October the latest HUSH CD is launched. Both of these concerts will also be broadcast for all our listeners' enjoyment.
HUSH
Highlight Celebrate the launch of the latest CD from the HUSH Foundation, which produces music to reduce stress and anxiety for children, families and others in hospital. Join Emma Ayres from 7pm for a live launch on Wednesday 3 October as the music of Mark Isaacs brings the story of The Wind in the Willows to life.
Sydney listeners, come along to Eugene Goossens Hall at ABC Ultimo by 6.45pm for the free concert. As this is a live broadcast we suggest you arrive early to avoid disappointment.
PINCHGUT AT THE ART GALLERY OF NSW
Highlight

To celebrate the Classic 100 - The Music of France, Pinchgut Opera and ABC Classic FM are presenting a concert at the beautiful Old Courts at the Art Gallery of NSW on Sunday 30 September. Soprano Celeste Lazarenko, music director and harpsichordist Erin Helyard, and players from Pinchgut Opera will perform works by Rameau, Lully, Mondonville and others. If you'll be in Sydney for the long weekend, come and join us for a beautiful evening of music making. Ticket purchase and enquiries: 02 9225 1878 (Ticket includes entry to the Eugene Atget : Old Paris exhibition.).

For those listeners who can't be there Christopher will broadcast the concert in Mornings on Wednesday 3 October.


OCTOBER LIMELIGHT
Highlight The October issue of Limelight magazine is the piano issue, and it explores the 20 piano recordings that shook the world, talks to a number of rising stars, details the history of the piano, and takes a deeper look at Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 4.

SUNDAY LIVE NEWCASTLE
Highlight This Sunday, violinist Ronald Woodcock and pianist Stefan Ammer join forces to perform works by Ravel, Ives, Saint-Georges, and a transcription by Haifetz of the music of Gershwin.
This concert will be at the Harold Lobb Concert Hall at the Newcastle Conservatorium. All are welcome, however, audience are required to be seated by 2:50 as the concert will begin at 3pm sharp. >>more

Evenings - Sydney Symphony Live
Pianist Angela Hewitt joins the Sydney Symphony for this concert from the Sydney Opera House presented by Damien Beaumont. The concert begins with Mystere de l'instant (Mystery of the Moment) by Dutilleux, followed by the Mozart Piano Concerto No 20 in D minor, K466, and then Beethoven's Symphony No 4 in B flat, Op 60.

Saturday 22 September - 8pm
Show - Kuss Quartet with Naoko Shimizu, viola
Live from the Melbourne Recital Centre as part of their Australian tour for Musica Viva, the Kuss Quartet present the world premiere of Gordon Kerry's String Quintet, followed by Mozart's String Quartet in D, K575, Officium Breve in Memoriam Andrei Szervansky by Kurtag, and the Brahms String Quintet No 2 in G, Op 111.

Sunday 23 September - 7pm
Sunday Opera - Verdi 'Otello'
This production from the Vienna State Opera stars Peter Seiffert in the title role, with Krassimira Stoyanova (Desdemona), Carlos Alvarez (Iago), Aura Twarowska (Emilia), Marian Talaba (Cassio), Peter Jelosits (Roderigo), Dan Paul Dumitrescu (Lodovico), Eijiro Kai (Montano), Hiro Ijichi (Herald), and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with the Vienna State Opera Chorus conducted by Dan Ettinger.

Monday 24 September - 8pm
Evenings - Australian Chamber Choir
Conducted by Douglas Lawrence, the choir performs an all-Bach concert, including the Cantata No 4, Christ lag in Todesbanden (Christ lay in bonds of death), in this concert recorded earlier this year in the Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Melbourne.

Tuesday 25 September - 1pm
Afternoons - Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
Recorded in the Melbourne Town Hall earlier this year, the orchestra performs Beethoven's Symphony No 5 in C minor, Amphitheatre by  Brett Dean, Debussy's Rhapsody No 1 for Clarinet and Orchestra with soloist David Thomas, and Respighi's Pines of Rome.

Wednesday 26 September - 1pm
Afternoons - Cleveland Orchestra
This concert opens with Wagner's Tannhäuser Overture, followed by the Symphony No 4 in D minor by Schumann, and concludes with the R Strauss A Hero's Life.

Thursday 27 September - 8pm
Evenings - Cleveland Orchestra
Franz Welser-Most conducts Debussy's Nocturnes: Fetes Haydn's Symphony No 85 in B flat, Hob.I:85 (La Reine), and the Shostakovich Symphony No 5 in D minor, Op 47.

Friday 28 September - 8pm
Evenings - Flinders Quartet
Recorded in the Melbourne Recital Centre earlier this year, the quartet perform Elegy by Calvin Bowman, Beethoven's String Quartet No 16 in F, Op 135, and the Smetana String Quartet No 1 in E minor (From my Life).
