AUSTRALIAN STORY NEWSLETTER - SEPTEMBER 21 2012

Hi Everyone

Next week Sydney based producers Ben Cheshire and Ramahn Allam and editor Andrew Barnes reveal what happened to the two teenage girls who starred in the Puberty Blues movie more than 30 years ago. Based on the book by Kathy Lette and Gabrielle Carey, the Puberty Blues film was an instant hit and has become a cult classic in the intervening years.

The two teenage girls who starred in the film, Nell Schofield and Jad Capelja, looked set for big careers onscreen. Thrown together as teenagers, the film turned them into instant stars and they became good friends.

But their careers and lives took very different turns. When Nell revisited locations for the film, it was not with her co-star but with Jad's 23 year-old son, Miles. 'Life After Puberty' is introduced by Claudia Karvan who stars in the new commercial television version of the book.

We held a special preview on Wednesday and the participants thought it was a very moving 'story behind the story'. As well as being a very timely episode! You can check out a preview at www.abc.net.au/austory or on our Facebook page.

Ben and Ramahn have given me some extended interviews which I will post as website extras for Monday night. So if you'd like a more in-depth story experience please check them out...

Now speaking of in-depth experience, the lovely Caroline Jones is fast becoming a twitter sensation. On Monday nights she joins the #australianstory stream and has a wonderful time tweeting up a storm! I tweet from the Australian Story account as well, so between us we usually manage to respond to most comments and questions. So feel free to join us, and some of the people featured in 'Life After Puberty', this Monday night.

Well that's if for this week. Have a great weekend everyone!
