1233 program recognised by Walkley judges

1233 ABC Newcastle's Jill Emberson, Ben Millington and Lucia Hill have been nominated for a Walkley Award for their investigative series "Hooked on Heroin". The three-part series explored drug treatment in the Hunter region including the extensive waiting time for addicts to receive treatment and the impact this has on crime. Since the series aired the wait for methadone treatment in the Hunter has reduced from two years to two weeks. The winners will be announced on November 30 at the Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner at Parliament House in Canberra.

1233 Breakfast welcomes sporting hero to the hosting chair

Well-known Paralympian Kurt Fearnley will co-host 1233 ABC Newcastle's Breakfast program for two weeks from Monday 12 November while Aaron Kearney takes a break. Kurt is a regular on the Breakfast show with Aaron and will co-host the program with seasoned broadcaster Garth Russell. An Australian wheelchair racer, Kurt has won gold medals at the Paralympic Games and 'crawled' the Kokoda Track.
