A feast of fine musical offerings coming up for you this week on ABC Classic FM, including a live broadcast showcasing our inspiring young musicians at the AYO's National Music Camp. We'll also hear the second part of the Resurrection Symphonies series and take a look at the overachieving conductor dubbed "Gustavo the Great" .... enjoy.


AYO NATIONAL MUSIC CAMP - LIVE
Highlight

Join us 8pm Saturday for the first of two live broadcasts from the Australian Youth Orchestra's 2013 National Music Camp . Celebrating 65 years, the National Music Camp has become one of the most important events for Australia's next generation of classical musicians. Tonight's concert from the University of Adelaide's Elder Hall includes the music of Bach, Brahms, Wagner and more.

GUSTAVO DUDAMEL - ROCK STAR OF THE PODIUM
Highlight

The New York Times described Venezuelan maestro Gustavo Dudamel as "one of the hottest -and youngest - conducting properties around the world". In Saturday's Music Makers at 12pm , Mairi Nicolson looks at the extraordinary career of "Gustavo the Great", who at just 31 years old has already conducted many of the world's leading orchestras.

80 YEARS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC AND THE ABC - PART TWO:1946-1956
Highlight

Resurrection Symphonies: 80 Years of Classical Music and the ABC continues on Sunday at Midday . This second program covers the career of Australia's most famous orchestral Chief Conductor, Eugene Goossens , whose reign coincided with the ABC's establishment of permanent full-sized symphony orchestras and a continuing feast of elite visiting artists. The series continues at the same time next week.

Highlight

Rebecca Chan and Kristian Chong - 13 January 3pm

Rebecca Chan and Kristian Chong have both performed with many of Australia's leading orchestras and have also had great success in national and international competitions. Rebecca currently performs with The Australian Chamber Orchestra while Kristian Chong keeps busy with teaching at the University of Melbourne and maintaining a busy performance schedule.  Today's concert from last May's  Sunday Live in Melbourne features music by Szymanoski, Mozart and Strauss.

Evening Concert - SSO International Pianists: Angela Hewitt
Recorded in the City Recital Hall, Angel Place, Sydney, tonight's concert features acclaimed pianist Angela Hewitt performing s program of Bach's Goldberg Variations, BWV988: Nos 1-20, Goldberg Variations, BWV988: Nos 21-31 and Bach arr Hess' Cantata No 147, Herz und Mund (Heart and Voice): Jesu, joy of man's desiring.

Saturday 12 January - 8pm
Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp 2013 - LIVE
Live from Elder Hall, University of Adelaide, highlights include Martin Chamber Orchestra (Elizabeth Wallfisch conductor) with Bach Suite in A minor BWV 1067a and Alexander Orchestra (Fabian Russell conductor) performing Brahms' Variations on a Theme of Joseph Haydn, Op 56a.

Sunday 13 January - 4pm
Song and Dance - Sir Richard Rodney Bennett
That most versatile of musicians Sir Richard Rodney Bennett died last month at the age of 76. In today's program we'll hear some of his film scores along with his performances of The Great American Songbook

Monday 14 January - 8pm
Evening Concert - Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
A selection of Russian masterpieces provides the perfect showcase for the talents of the brilliant young conductor Jakub Hrusa and pianist Nicholas Angelich. Includes Mussorgsky orch Rimsky-Korsakov's Night on Bare Mountain, Mussorgsky orch Ravel's Pictures at an Exhibition and Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 2.

Tuesday 15 January - 1pm
Afternoon Concert - ANAM Australian Voices: Miriam Hyde
Following today's replay interview with the late Miriam Hyde, we feature this concert of some of her chamber music gems performed by members of the Australian National Academy of Music under the direction of William Hennessy.

Wednesday 16 January - 8pm
Evening Concert - 2012 Adelaide International Guitar Festival
Recorded in the Adelaide Festival Theatre, the first part of tonight's concert features the Australian String Quartet, Slava Grigoryan, Edin Karamazov, Simon Powis, Ana Vidovic and Simon Powis.

Thursday 17 January - 8pm
Evening Concert - From Bach to Schubert
Tonight's concert features the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Soo-Jin Hong (violin) and John Storgards (violin & conductor) performing Bach's Concerto in D minor for two violins, Rasmussen's Postludes for 23 solo strings and Schubert's Symphony No 4 in C minor, D417 (Tragic).

Friday 18 January - 8pm
Evening Concert - WASO with Cedric Tiberghien
At the Perth Concert Hall, acclaimed French pianist Cedric Tiberghien joins the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in performing Elgar's Froissart Overture, Ravel's Piano Concerto in G, Liadov's The Enchanted Lake and Mendelssohn's Symphony No 4 in A, Op 90 (Italian).
