Greetings from ABC Classic FM where the festive season is getting into full swing. As you'll see below, some superb celebratory music is coming your way over the coming days and weeks, including the magical Voices of Angels concert this Tuesday. Away from seasonal music, there's a New Music Up Late live special, a celebration of jazz legend Dave Brubeck and much more .... enjoy.

And today we bid a sad farewell to ABC Classic FM Senior Live Music Producer Owen Chambers who is retiring after nearly 40 years with the ABC. Cheerio, Owen, thank you - enjoy your retirement! 


VOICES OF ANGELS - LIVE
Highlight

Live from the City Recital Hall, Angel Place, Sydney, join The Sydney Children's Choir, Gondwana Voices and guest pianist Sally Whitwell for their annual concert of traditional and non-traditional music for the festive season. Voices of Angels features a program of uplifting songs and carols that are sure to enchant and exhilarate.

DAVE BRUBECK: A MAN OF HIS TIME
Highlight

On Saturday's Jazztrack, Mal Stanley features music of American jazz pianist and composer Dave Brubeck who passed away earlier this month, just short of his 92nd birthday. Brubeck was an icon of jazz in the 20th century, an artist who helped keep jazz popular in the 50s and 60s in particular. In this program you'll hear one of his very first recordings from 1946, one of his later ones solo in 2007 plus many in between.

NEW MUSIC UP LATE SPECIAL - EVERYTHING ALWAYS
Highlight

What is music and what is noise? Join Julian Day to expore these questions in a special live concert broadcast from the ABC's Sydney studios. The concert will feature compositions exploring relationships between noise and acoustic instruments in contemporary chamber music. Includes music by Austrian composer Peter Ablinger and locals Austin Buckett and Cat Hope.

Highlight

Sunday 16 November, 3pm - Latitude 37

An exploration of Turkish, and Ottoman-inspired Baroque music with baroque trio Latitude 37. Julia Fredersdorff (baroque violin), Laura Vaughan (viola da gamba) and Donald Nicolson (harpsichord) were drawn together by their passion for historically informed performance of 16th, 17th and 18th century music. Today they will be joined by guest percussionist Matt Stonehouse.

Afternoon Concert - St Olaf Choir
The acclaimed St Olaf Choir and St Olaf Chamber Orchestra perform a delightful program including Bach's Sing Unto the Lord a New Song, Hamlin's Before I Go my Way and Clausen
Ave Rosa. Recorded in St Olaf College, Minnesota.

Saturday 15 December - 8pm
Evening Concert - New Music Up Late Special Concert - LIVE
Live from the ABC in Sydney, tonight's concert, "Everything Always", features contemporary works focusing on white noise. The program includes pieces by renowned Berlin-based, Austrian composer Peter Ablinger and WA composer/academic Cat Hope.

Music Makers: Robert Hughes - A Symphonic Story
This Music Makers feature about Australian composer Robert Hughes explores the man, his music and his legacy, through the story of the recent new edition and new recording of his Symphony No.1

Monday 17 December - 1pm
Afternoon Concert - 2012 Summer Festivities of Early Music, Prague
The Academy of Ancient Music (Berlin), Jana Semeradova (flute), Elfa Run Kristindottir (violin) and Raphael Alpermann  (harpsichord) perform a program including Bach's Orchestral Suite No 2 in B minor and Telemann's Overture (Suite)in B flat (Les Nations).

Tuesday 18 December - 7pm
Evening Concert - Voices of Angels 2012 - LIVE
Live from the City Recital Hall, Angel Place, Sydney, The Sydney Children's Choir, Gondwana Voices and guest Sally Whitwell (piano) return for this annual celebration of traditional and non-traditional music for the festive season.

Wednesday 19 December - 8pm
Evening Concert - Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - Ravel
Katerina Karneus (mezzo-soprano) and Jean Efflam Bavouzet (piano) feature in tonight's all-Ravel program conducted by Tadaaki Otaka. Includes Daphnis and Chloe: Suite No 2, Sheherazade, Song Cycle, Piano Concerto in G and Bolero.

Thursday 20 December - 1pm
Afternoon Concert - Australian Brandenburg Orchestra
Federico Guglielmo (baroque violin/director) and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra with a program including Vivaldi's Concerto in C for strings, Concerto in G minor for various instruments, RV576 'a Sua Altezza Reale di Sassonia' and Concerto in F (Il Proteo), RV572.

Friday 21 December -
Afternoon Concert - A Dallas Wind Symphony Christmas
A Christmas treat from the The Dallas Wind Symphony with soprano Mela Dailey and organist Bradley Hunter Welch conducted by Jerry Junkin.
