Ian Henschke Back from Break
After returning back to the great southern land it won't be long before a bloke will probably say, "I bet you were glad to get home from Singapore. I went to Asia once and you can see why they all want to come here." You then have to bite your tongue because you can't destroy his fantasy or you'll be classed as "un-Australian". Last week I went to Middleton Point and saw a station wagon pull up. I watched two lads eat their pies, drink coffees from polystyrene cups, flick cigarette butts out the window, then chuck out all their rubbish and head off to a better surf spot. The bin was ten metres away. I met another local whose fifteen year old was assaulted after New Year's Eve celebrations in Victor Harbor. What's worse is the perpetrator is likely to get away with it, no cameras to catch him apparently. Then I remembered how the killer of Jill Meagher, an ABC colleague in Melbourne, had been caught almost by accident on a closed circuit TV in a local shop. These events make me wonder how we can improve things in our State. Do we need more security cameras? Singapore has many and they seem to be making that place incredibly safe. I love talking to people, hearing their stories and watching what goes on around me. Our best stories come from our listeners and from listening in general. So give us a call, I'd love to hear your stories and share your thoughts. |
