Every December Salvation Army Chaplains Jean and Peter Ridley hook up their "Caravan of Hope" and visit communities in western NSW. They arrive bearing gifts and toys donated by big businesses and community groups. After the Christmas parties and Carols they visit farmers and people in need, to listen and chat. Compass joined the Caravan of Hope's outback mission to profile the work of the Ridleys, as well as meet the locals and capture the spirit of their extraordinary bush Christmas mission. If you missed last Sunday's episode A Place by the Sea you can watch it on our website or on iView. Compass is also repeated on Tuesdays at 1.30pm on ABC1. Next Tuesday 11 December, at the special time of 8pm, is our final program of the year, a Compass Special: Churches on Trial. Geraldine Doogue investigates the child sexual abuse crisis in Australian churches over the past 20 years from our groundbreaking 1992 program The Ultimate Betrayal to Julia Gillard's Royal Commission announcement. Episodes of Compass programs can be viewed online for three months after broadcast, except for acquired programs which are only available for two weeks after transmission. | |||
